Point of Suspension – Gaza and the Need to Speak

“Point of Suspension” is a unique poetic work, the result of the joint work of Olivia Elias and Michaël Glück, published by L’AMOURIER in the second quarter of 2024. This collection is distinguished by its thematic depth and stylistic richness, exploring the meanderings of existence, absence and expectation, symbolized by the suspension points in the title.

The very title of the work, “Point de suspension”, suggests a reflection on incompleteness, indecision, and moments of suspension in human life. The poems alternate between the voices of the two authors, each bringing their own sensibility and unique perspective. Olivia Elias, known for her exploration of exile and identity. Marked by exile and wandering, her poems express a deep sense of solidarity with those banished and excluded from the good life (without ever mentioning it, this collection immerses us in the sad and tragic Palestinian experience, past and present, etc.). Michaël Glück brings his penchant for philosophical meditation.

The texts are short, often fragmentary, and play with silences and what is left unsaid. This structure allows readers to immerse themselves in a contemplative atmosphere, where each word is weighed, each image is evocative. The absence of traditional punctuation reinforces this feeling of floating and unfinished reflection.

The two authors have mastered the art of saying a lot with a little, but the metaphors are powerful, the images often surprising, and the emotions conveyed are intense but also restrained.

The use of ellipsis is not only stylistic, it is also philosophical. They embody pauses in thought, moments of doubt and waiting, spaces where the reader is invited to fill the void with his or her own reflection (and it works very well). It is an invitation to active participation, to personal meditation.

“Point of Suspension” resonates particularly in our era marked by uncertainty, existential questioning, confusion, the constant lies and barbarity of the dominant economic and social system – ‘civilized’ predators – to the point of questioning our own humanity.

In conclusion, this poetic work captures and holds the attention with its depth and originality. L’AMOURIER has published a collection that deserves to be read and reread, each reading revealing new layers of meaning and emotion. Olivia Elias and Michaël Glück offer us here a poetic meditation on indecision and incompleteness, a literary space where ellipses become bridges to …
